Margaret has worked with C-suite executives in dozens of national and international businesses and nonprofit organizations, providing them with strategic communication counsel, crisis communication planning, messaging strategy and media intervention.

Prior to founding her own firm, for more than a decade, Margaret served as the spokesperson and press secretary for then United States Senator, President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. Along with a small press staff, she developed and implemented Biden’s press and public relations strategies, advised him on both the merit and quality of media opportunities, and prepared briefing materials for interviews, television appearances and public events.

Margaret is a graduate of the University of Delaware and holds a master’s degree in Communication and Media Studies from Johns Hopkins University.

EXPERIENCE

Margaret is a Strategic Advisor at FMG Leading, a group of coaches and advisors that create breakthrough performance at the intersection of business strategy and human capital performance. Prior to FMG Leading and founding her own firm, Margaret served as the spokesperson and press secretary for then United States Senator and now President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. In that capacity, she handled thousands of press inquiries and worked closely with reporters, editors, producers and bookers. Along with a small press staff, she developed and implemented Biden’s press and public relations strategies, advised him on both the merit and quality of press opportunities, and prepared briefing materials for interviews, television appearances and public events.

Before working for Senator Biden, Margaret was the public information officer for the State of Delaware's Department of Education and the Press Secretary for New Castle County Executive Dennis Greenhouse. She has traveled extensively both nationally and internationally, orchestrating press availabilities throughout the United States, and in Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Margaret’s experience on both the federal and state level has proven invaluable to clients seeking strategic assistance whether they are a multi-million dollar company or a new start-up. She has advised clients on a myriad of matters ranging from crisis management communication to political policy and press strategy.

In 2009, Margaret founded Margaret Aitken Communications, LLC, a media strategy and public relations firm based in Wilmington, Delaware. As the firm’s principal member, she has worked with national and international businesses and organizations, providing them with strategic communication counsel, messaging strategy and media intervention.

Margaret’s clients range from Fortune 500 corporations to government entities and nonprofit organizations, and include The DuPont Company, National Cardiovascular Partners, Incyte, The Delaware Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Council, The Buccini/Pollin Group, AstraZeneca, The Delaware Financial Empowerment Partnership, and the Light Up the Queen Foundation.

Margaret holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Delaware and a master’s degree in Communication and Media Studies from Johns Hopkins University.
