Throughout his professional career, Dr. Matt Brubaker has partnered with investors, boards, and CEOs to build high-performing organizations. His advisory work, especially in Private Equity, focuses on growth strategy, senior team alignment, and enterprise-wide change initiatives.

 
 

Dr. Brubaker helps clients navigate the complex people-related dynamics associated with rapid growth, pivots in strategy, and transformational change. A recognized thought leader on the subject of human capital strategy, Dr. Brubaker’s work has been featured in numerous management publications including: Harvard Business Review, Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, Chief Executive, Fast Company, and Private Equity International.

Dr. Brubaker earned his Master of Arts degree in Dispute Resolution at the University of Massachusetts, and his Doctor of Education in Organizational Change (Ed.D.) degree from Pepperdine University. He serves as an Operating Partner at WindRose Health Investors, a New York-based private equity firm, and also sits on the boards of JM Search, Traditions Behavioral Health, and Big Sky Bravery.

EXPERIENCE

Dr. Matt Brubaker is the Chairman and CEO of FMG Leading, a group of advisors that help investors and executives transform their organizations at the intersection of humanity and high-performance. Throughout his professional career, Dr. Brubaker has coached high-performing executives and their organizations in a variety of capacities, including executive development, high-profile succession planning, growth strategy, and organizational assessment and change.

In addition to his role as FMG Leading’s Chief Executive, Dr. Brubaker’s client work focuses on helping C-Suite leaders, boards, and investors navigate the complex people-related dynamics associated with rapid growth, pivots in strategy, and sustainable transformation, with a growing focus on Private Equity firms and their portfolio companies. He also maintains an executive coaching practice, focused exclusively on C-level leaders and PE General/Managing Partners. Dr. Brubaker brings a development approach focused simultaneously on the “doing” and “being” aspects of leadership, helping leaders and managers develop the skills required to achieve breakthrough business results while being mindful of their impact on those around them.

In addition to his business and leadership background, Dr. Brubaker brings a passion for experiential learning and the outdoors to his consulting work. His unique approach to leadership development incorporates movement, physical activity and adrenaline into consulting relationships, helping leaders develop confidence in their skills, build stronger connections with themselves and others, and access a deeper level of insight.

Dr. Brubaker was previously Director of Organizational Development for Comcast Corporation, the nation’s largest cable and internet provider, and Owner/Managing Principal of Terra Nova Partners, an executive coaching firm. He has worked with dozens of clients, including CNN, Deloitte, Massachusetts General Hospital, Optum, TeamHealth, MTS Partners, Alliance HealthCare Services, LightBay Capital, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, BristolMyers Squibb, TCV, Chevron, DaVita, Microsoft, Cortec Group, SCA Health, and Vail Resorts.

Dr. Brubaker also has a broad background in working with senior leaders of strategic nonprofits; he currently serves as Vice-Chairman of the Board for Big Sky Bravery, an organization focused on meeting the needs of active-duty special forces operators.

ACADEMIC AFFILIATIONS

Dr. Brubaker earned his Master of Arts degree in Dispute Resolution at the University of Massachusetts, and his Doctor of Education in Organizational Change (Ed.D.) degree from Pepperdine University’s Graduate School of Education and Psychology. His doctoral dissertation examines the practice of apology as a leadership behavior, and its impact on organizational performance.

PERSONAL

Dr. Brubaker lives on a small farm outside of Philadelphia, PA with his wife and children, their dog, and a growing assortment of livestock.
